Reading Strategies



An annotated book should look like this:

Notice: the underlining of key sentences, phrases, and words; the explanations of words and events in the margins; the summaries of the events of each page at the top or bottom. 

Bookmarking
If you want to minimize writing in your book, or if you want to quickly locate important events in the text (for example if you are writing an open-book, in-class essay) write on sticky notes and place them on the corresponding page. Make sure the writing on the sticky notes is visible when the page is closed. Write more explanation on the page, if necessary.
