Make use of a Practice Log. The student and parent should agree on what the student's studying goals should be (e.g. studying Word Day 15 minutes a day for two consecutive weeks.) They should also agree on how to enforce the agreement (e.g. studying in front of parents vs. the honors system.) Lastly, they should agree on a reward for when the student completes the terms of the agreement (e.g. candy, extra time spent with friends or entertaining themselves). The practice log is intended to help students create a habit of studying over and above the minimum required homework, which is often necessary to succeed on assessments. Students can also use practice logs themselves, without parent input, although they must be accountable to themselves.                Active/Passive Learning
