Character Education

Liberty Common High School’s brand of classical liberal arts is more than just a top-tier, college-preparatory curriculum. Character education helps define the school culture.

The Liberty system invests thirteen years of character education into the lives of its students, complementing the building blocks established at home, thereby providing scholars with the moral tools needed to live in a democratic republic and share in common virtues.

Liberty’s “foundation stones” – Respect, Responsibility, Cooperation, Self Control, Perseverance, Integrity, and Citizenship – are reinforced at the elementary school. These virtues define the school culture and foster expected behavior for Liberty students. Character is developed through a coherent program of expectations, modeling, and study of historical and literary figures.

At LCHS, character education expands to include “capstones.” These include fundamental virtues indicating honor and maturity. These virtues are studied and advanced through rich literature and biographical consideration. They are also reinforced through dedicated character assemblies held according to each year’s Lyceum schedule. (available on our Resources page)

Among the specific themes and virtues accentuated at LCHS are: Patriotism, Gratitude, Prudence, Fortitude, Justice, Temperance and Wisdom.

As a smaller, parent-led charter school, faculty and staff know Liberty students by name and help ensure student accountability.
